| The Shetland belongs to a Northern European short-tailed group which includes the Icelandic, Finn, Romanovs and others. It is believed that they were brought to the Shetland Islands by the Vikings. They are considered a primative breed, shaped by the harsh conditions and meager diet available to them on the Islands. Small and relatively slow-growing, they maintain a natural hardiness, easy lambing, adaptability and longevity. The smallest of the British breeds, rams usually weigh 90 to 125 lbs. while ewes tip the scales at about 75 to 100lbs. Rams typically have beautiful spiral horns, while ewes are usually polled. Shetlands are reknown for their beautiful fine fleeces that come in the widest range of colours of any breed. At Belmeadow we aquired our firstShetlands in 2002. We offer breeding stock, pets, raw fleeces, hides and freezer lamb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Pepper is an ideal Shetland ram. Pepper has produced some nice lambs for us and we retained several of his daughters before moving him on. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
